May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.
Although there’s no reason why it should be relegated to just one month a year, AAPI Heritage Month serves as an important reminder of the importance of learning about, honoring and celebrating diverse cultures — specifically the incredible contributions of AAPI communities.
Here are some ideas on ways to celebrate this year:
Immerse yourself in Asian American and Pacific Islander art and culture. Google's Arts and Culture site has a wonderful curated selection of AAPI poems, stories, visual art pieces and notable creators.
Brush up on AAPI history by checking out podcasts and documentary films, as well as articles like this one from The Skimm, or this PBS documentary.
Support local AAPI-Owned businesses. Some platforms like Yelp have installed a special filter to help you connect with AAPI-owned businesses in your area.
Attend a local or virtual event to show support for AAPI communities. Google can usually help you find these events.
At SDSU, the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Resource Center will also have event throughout the month to celebrate this heritage!
