by The Rev. Darin Johnson, Agape Campus Pastor and Executive Director

Bill Eadie supported, connected and guided the Agape community on and beyond our board of directors with kind wisdom and caring leadership on and off campus. So that you all can have a glimpse of a few ways that Bill advanced Agape’s mission of love, particularly at San Diego State University, I’d like to share a few reflections since Bill claimed his eternal home in God on 15 November 2025.
I met Bill soon after coming to serve as campus pastor to the people of SDSU in fall 2009. I have met a lot of university faculty and administrators in my 30 years of campus ministry, noticing that practically all of them share a love of learning, teaching, and supporting students, but Bill immediately stood out to me as someone with a servant’s heart, even before I learned of his involvement at St. Paul Episcopal Cathedral downtown. SDSU is a busy place, but when I first introduced myself to Bill, he immediately gave me his fully engaged attention, even before we got to the Christian faith and mission that we happened to share. Gracious and generous personal attention embodied Bill’s integrity within his leadership in the academic discipline of communication as well as off campus.
Bill cared for people, and surviving a close call with his health several years ago only deepened his compassionate attention and his celebration of the arts and theater. As a singer and care coordinator for twenty years with the Orange County Gay Men’s Chorus: MenAlive, Bill brought a heart for inclusive and caring community that resonated with Agape San Diego’s mission and ministry. Bill also deepened my own appreciation for the importance of arts and culture in Agape’s outreach as he returned to campus from retirement and Agape began hosting theatrical performances, open mic nights, and student artists as a community–a vision we intend to realize even more through our new campus ministry center at SDSU.
I’ll share more about how Bill’s life and work continues to inspire me in an upcoming article. For now, I wanted to honor Bill. I thank God in this season for + Bill Eadie +, who gave his life honorably, joyfully, and generously in the footsteps of Jesus.
