People who love dogs really love dogs and we've found that students, especially, miss their dogs LIKE CRAZY while away at school.
Like Mother Heather's dog, Raisin, before her, Torrey, Pastor Darin's Greyhound, is a fixture among our many gatherings at SDSU. Most recently, on a hot day in September, Torrey greeted a student from Seattle who pet her for nearly 20 minutes. Students, faculty, and staff alike, are drawn to our animal companions to remember a simpler time and home.
The American Kennel Club writes, "Humans and dogs have had a special bond for thousands of years—we see it in the way dogs work, play, and live with us. Most experts agree that this relationship developed when the wolf, the dog’s ancestor, and human came in contact with each other. Some wolves, for unknown reasons, attached themselves to this strange two-legged species and from that early contact, dogs as we have come to know them evolved."
We're grateful for all members of our community, human and dog alike. Come meet Torrey any Wednesday, during lunch, on the lawn opposite our Hardy Avenue property at SDSU and, especially, honoring St. Francis for our Pet Blessing on October 2.
